BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Benefits Analyst will provide subject matter expertise and benefits consulting to the organization.  The Senior Benefits Analyst is responsible for executing on MSC Benefits programs, practices and implementing improvement opportunities.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies, analyzes and interprets data for our corporate benefit plans and programs.
  • Responsible for providing financial metrics and cost analysis of benefits options.
  • Monitors benefit trends in the business environment, best practices and stays abreast of applicable benefits legislation.
  • Provides analysis and migration support for mergers and acquisitions
  • Guides less experienced benefits staff
  • Expert in the Benefits platform; liaison with IT; identifies and analyzes root cause issues and implements solutions
  • Creates ad-hoc reports from the HRIS database, as necessary.
  • Drives process improvement both internally within the Benefits Team and externally to all our associates.
  • Strong technical, analytical, problem identification and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply rigorous logic and methods to develop effective solutions to difficult situations.
  • Presents and communicates benefit programs, options and analyses to a wide range of audiences, including Senior Management.
  • Ensures compliance and has strong knowledge of HIPPA standards, flexible spending accounts, ERISA, COBRA, ADA, FMLA, short and long term disability, 401K, health care reforms and other benefit related laws and regulations.
  • Prepares analyses, reconciliations, metrics, compliance filings, etc.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations to corporate management and associates on benefits issues, procedures, and policy plan interpretation.
  • Designs, communicates, manages, and monitors Wellness Program.
  • Assists the Sr. Director in the development of philosophy and guiding principles that will be used to develop and implement Benefits Programs, including with the evaluation of proposed associate benefit contracts by studying provisions and estimating impact.
  • Develops training and communication materials in order to educate and understand our Benefits Package at MSC.
  • Interfaces with Finance/Accounting, Payroll and IT departments, as necessary, to ensure compliance with company policies and guidelines.
  • Audits monthly benefits billing for accuracy and timeliness of payments.
  • Develops and manages partnerships with third party vendors.
  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Finance or Business or the equivalent is required. Minimum of six years’ experience in administration of employee benefits or HR is required.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation (CEBS) preferred
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems, i.e., Peoplesoft is preferred

 

SKILLS:

  • In depth knowledge of benefit theories and practical application is required.
  • Advanced computer literacy and knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software is required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise a high level of discretion is required.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting, project planning, time management and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. 

 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 15% of the time are required
